Challenge
The Indiana Statesman decided their old logo simply looked outdated and did not reflect the accomplishments that the Statesman has made since its creation.
Solution
I developed the new logo to reflect the broader connections the paper has with its audience, in addition to hinting at the newspaper’s origins with Indiana State University.
Background
The Indiana Statesman is a student-led newspaper organization producing Tuesdays and Thursdays to over 100 locations around Terre Haute, IN. Before 2021, they had stuck around with their previous logo (right) since they were established at Indiana State University.
Process
As the Indiana Statesman is a part of Indiana State University, I wanted to keep some of the original branding of ISU within the Statesman’s new identity, so I used the silhouette of the sycamore leaf to create an outline that would hold the leaves of the new logo. The tree of the Indiana Statesman brings the idea that the newspaper can branch out across ISU and reach every student that needs the most recent news.
Results
The redesigned logo has now been established as the primary logo for the Indiana Statesman. It can be seen in the new masthead that I additionally designed, as the old mastheads no longer matched the new branding.
